Chissà quanti di voi, per lavoro, per studio o per semplice viaggio sono passati da qui, dalla stazione di Campo di Marte, che oggi vediamo in questo confronto. La stazione venne costruita nel 1895 circa e andava a sostituire quella che sorgeva dove oggi ci sono i viali Gramsci, Mazzini e Segni (lo avreste mai detto?). Al momento della costruzione si pensava che sarebbe diventata la stazione principale della città, ma così non fu. Nella foto la vediamo com'era, in legno, molto simile ad uno chalet svizzero, stile architettonico che era molto in voga nella Firenze dell'epoca, ma pochi anni dopo, nel 1908, fu completamente distrutta da un incendio e venne così deciso di ricostruita in muratura.
Who knows how many of you, from work, study or simple trip have passed from here, from Campo di Marte station, which we see today in this comparison. The station was built around 1895 and replaced the one that stood where the Gramsci, Mazzini and Segni avenues are today (would you have said that?). At the time of construction it was thought that it would become the main station of the city, but it did not. In the photo above we see it as it was, in wood, very similar to a Swiss chalet, architectural style that was very much in vogue in the Florence of the time, but a few years later, in 1908, it was completely destroyed by fire and was thus decided to rebuild masonry.
